Thursday 26th May - 6.30pm
A documentary profile of Britain's most successful female cyclist. Friends, family and colleagues pay tribute to the Yorkshire housewife who won more than 90 domestic championships and seven world titles, and set a women's record for the 12-hour time-trial which exceeded the men's record for two years. Narrated by Phil Liggett..
From the HTV archive at the National Library of Wales television and film department, this newsreel footage covers the famous Milk Race visiting Aberystwyth over some two decades. The Round the Houses criterium, the forerunner to the modern day Tour Series race is also shown, with footage from 1966-1980.
(2015 - 7 mins) Dir: Steven Green
Twice winner of the Milk Race and British cycling legend Les West swaps anecdotes with team mate Roger Pratt about competing in the Tour of Britain in the late 1960s.
Over a montage of contemporary footage they discuss facing exhaustion and fierce rivals during the two week long 1,500 mile stage race. Many of the foreign riders they competed against were professional in all but name, whereas Les and Roger had to return to their regular jobs the day after finishing the race.
The film features colour 16mm footage of the mountainous Aberystwyth to Cardiff stage of the 1966 race.
Ask your questions, both about the nights feature film and any other cycling matters to our very special guest to be announced soon.
