Road Closures

Friday 26th - Saturday 27th May 2017

Important information for residents, business owners and visitors

The above road closures will be in effect on Friday 26th May 2017.

Marshals will be around the course to provide advice to motorists and pedestrians.

Please note: Bridge Street and the top of Great Darket Street will remain open until 1pm.

Some sections of the Highway for the events listed above will be closed to vehicles under a Ceredigion County Council Special Events Permit.

Friday 26th May 2017

Road closures will be in force from 06.00 on Friday 26th May. We will retain full access to Pier Street and Great Darkgate Street until 13.00. After that time, the closure of surrounding streets will mean that Westside of Eastgate Street and Pier Street will no longer be accessible. Upper Bridge Street & Great Darkgate Street will be restricted to the diversion route via Market St. We therefore ask that any HGV deliveries are completed by 1.00pm. White vans will be fine to access via Eastgate and Market Street, during this period.

We also propose a parking restriction on all the affected areas from 00.00 on Friday 26th. This was a successful action in 2015, resulting in less cars parked on the race route before the car clearance team took up their roles.

Re-opening of routes will commence as soon as the last race has finished 9.00pm, with all routes open by 12.00pm.

All public footpaths will remain open and the course will contain numerous allocated marshalled crossing points for you to use, with Disabled Access still available.

Saturday 27th May

We will be hosting two events. These events will consist of a downhill mountain bike race on Saturday 24th May on Constitution Hill, and a Hill Climb challenge on Primrose Hill in Llanbadarn Fawr.

The Hill Climb will take place between 10am-12pm (road closed from 9am-1pm on the mail steep section of the Hill). The event will be in the form of a dual eliminator format, with two riders racing each other from bottom to top in a knockout format.

Riders from the previous evening’s Ceredigion GP will be invited to compete, for a cash prize, along with local riders. A women’s category is also planned and Llanbadarn Community Council are also involved to ensure a great day's entertainment.

Downhill mountain bike racing is one of the most watched disciplines of cycling and certainly one of the most exciting. Think Downhill Skiing and you get an idea of the speeds, thrills and spills associated with this sport.

With its Funicular railway providing the perfect automatic ‘uplift’ facility for the competitors, and its twisty tracks and wooden bridges it’s almost as if ‘Consti’ was designed as a downhill MTB course. Warm up will take place from 10.00am – 12.00pm, with the racing taking place from 13.00pm – 16.30pm

Sunday 28th May

A sportive is a non-competitive, non-mass-start event that combines elements of road riding and long distance bicycle touring. Our events attracts a wide range of riders, from dedicated racing cyclists to leisure cyclists wanting a challenging ride on x4 different courses ranging from o 40 to 120 miles. Our event allows riders to test themselves over a race-proven route in the heart of Ceredigion.

These challenge rides will start at 8.00am and we envisage the last rider home will be back at 4.30pm. The Start & Finish will this year take place on the promenade in front of the bandstand.

For more information on any of these events, or if you would like to sponsor your business / trade, please visit our website www.abercyclefest.com or contact us directly, so we can send you the information in your chosen format.

Thank you for your help in promoting a safe sporting event in our town and beautiful County of Ceredigion.
